Craig Wilson

WATCH FOR THE MOMENTS WITH CRAIG WILSON               A journalist uses the power of both words and art, and their ability to elicit emotions from an audience. A journalist has the ability to convey compassion, anger, animosity, regret, or sorrow. But how does one do so?   "It’s all about moments," says reporter Craig Wilson.   "I’m a man of routine.   First thing I do when I wake up is put my glasses on and the last thing I do before bed is take my glasses off, but it’s small moments in life between that routine that a story can take place.”             Craig Wilson attended Augustana College in Camrose, Alberta where he studied Political Science and Canadian History. He began his career in 1988 as a reporter for CHAT television and radio in Medicine Hat, Alberta.   Being a good journalist is not just how well you can write and tell a story, ...

Bike Lane

Edward Pullman president of the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition calls Victoria the cycling capital of Canada. But Pullman and other fellow bikers in Victoria state that Victoria has not done enough change to help cycling compared to other cities like Vancouver. Victoria as a smaller city already has done a lot for cycling in the city, from bike lanes down town to private bike lane trails to get you across town. But cyclists are still looking for more, especially in the town down area. Most roads down town Victoria are narrow and accidents occur often with cyclists, some roads it’s just too dangerous to share the road. City of Victoria website shows that 5.4km of protected bike lanes downtown will be completed by 2018.   This should help protect more cyclists in Victoria, but I believe for the City of Victoria, it doesn’t matter how many more bike lanes they build or give bikers more rights it wont solve everything. Being cyclists myself no matter the situation if more bike ...

For today’s students, using mobile devices and any ot...

Free Tuition

The movement for free tuition for post-secondary education is one, which is growing just as rapidly as tuition costs them. Post education costs in Canada are not cheap as a four-year degree including residence, courses and administration costs can range from $20,000-$80,00.   Obviously, these costs pose a significant barrier for people in the low-mid income range. There are numerous sources, which show that having paid tuition is beneficial for students, health and social programs, communities, industries and society in general. Free tuition is beneficial because a college or university education offers external benefits to society.   A higher education leads to a more educated and productive workforce which can lead to higher levels of innovation and productive growth (Pettinger, 2017).   A highly skilled and educated workforce is a key element for the development of economic and social growth in Canada (Ivanova, 2012).   Higher educated people have more money ...
